Many are what they call "dual voltage". Dual voltage means that there is a switch, often one with a knob or just a slot that will require a coin or screwdriver to turn, that rotates making it possible for the appliance to operate in either the 120 volt country or the 220 volt country.
If the hair dryers, curling irons, and shavers aren't dual voltage then you must determine the wattage of each in order to find out which voltage converter will be required to be able use these appliances in the higher voltage countries.
Whether an appliance is dual voltage or requires a transformer or voltage converter, they will still need a plug adapter. But 99% of the time, it will be the ungrounded plug adapters that will be required directly on the dual voltage appliance and always for the transformer and voltage converter in these two cases.
